Amazon Prime Video hires Remy Merriex as inventive advertising and marketing director

Amazon has hired Remy Merriex, an ad creative veteran, most recently on Facebook, as the newest member of the Prime Video marketing team.

Prime Video and Amazon Studios chief marketing officer Ukonwa Ojo announced that Merriex will join Prime Video’s marketing team as global executive creative director. In his new role, he will oversee the development of global creative campaigns for the Prime Video brand, as well as content and original marketing. Merriex will start at Amazon on August 9th, reporting to Ojo who was the former CMO of MAC Cosmetics before joining Amazon last year.

Merriex was most recently Global Head of Creative for Facebook’s Messenger group. Previously, he headed the creative department for entertainment and brand marketing for Facebook Watch, Gaming, Live and Lasso (the now defunct short video app).

“I firmly believe that the most powerful forms of media will soon be introduced online first, and that digital entertainment is growing up and doing for TV and film what TV and film did to radio and books,” says Merriex in his LinkedIn bio.

Currently, Merriex is also a consultant and mentor for The One School, an organization designed to help black creatives create world-class portfolios by giving them free access to some of the best talent and leadership programs in the industry.

Prior to joining Facebook in 2018, Merriex was Group Creative Director at Walton Isaacson advertising agency in LA and worked at companies such as Trailer Park, Digital Kitchen and Shazam Entertainment.

Ojo is responsible for leading global brand and original marketing for Amazon’s video entertainment and reports to Mike Hopkins, SVP of Prime Video and Amazon Studios. Earlier this spring, Amazon launched a new global entertainment and media division led by longtime CEO Jeff Blackburn, to whom Hopkins reports.
