Arrested after Four mile backup on Chesapeake Bay Bridge – NBC4 Washington
A suspect was arrested after police activity and road closures left a 4-mile fuse on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on Saturday morning, police said.
Route 50 to the west on Kent Island has reopened after the suspect was taken into custody, the Queen Anne Sheriff’s office said.
All of the Bay Bridge’s lanes are open again, but state traffic officials said long traffic delays remained.
According to the Maryland Department of Transportation, the backups were at least 5 miles on each side of the bridge at around 12:30 p.m.
Police closed parts of Route 50 and the Bay Bridge for hours before noon.
The police did not provide any further details about the suspect or any charges against him.
All lanes on the Bay Bridge were closed early Saturday and part of Route 50 was closed for hours, authorities said.
Even after reopening a lane on the bridge, the traffic line grew from 2 miles to 4 miles, authorities said.
Drivers on social media said they were stuck in traffic for up to two hours.
Traffic on the beach should take a detour at Exit 37 to return to US 50 in an eastbound direction, the Maryland Department of Transportation said.
