Amanda Serrano, the champion, is the overwhelming favorite in this competition. Yamileth Mercado didn’t get much of a chance here from the quota makers, but that’s boxing and anything can happen.
But Serrano is one of the best female boxers of all time. She hasn’t lost in over 10 years and I can’t imagine losing here.
Round 1
Okay, let’s go. This could be a real showcase for Serrano. I can’t wait to see what she can do in this spotlight.
Serrano comes out super aggressive early on, huge volume. But she gets stung a little by a great shot from Mercado. However, it doesn’t seem to suppress it. All in all, a pretty tight lap.

Mercado is not exactly overwhelmed in this fight, but she loses. Serrano marches forward and lands heavy shots, Mercado lands a few here and there, but Serrano takes the round.

Round 3
Fantastic exchanges here with mercado and serrano trading strikes. Mercado has a chin on her, but she ends up here too. This struggle is being waged at a tremendous pace.

Round 4
Serrano slows down here and shoots her jab a little more. She managed to get Mercado a couple of times. Nice lap from Serrano, but Mercado may have stolen the lap there with a whirlwind in the end.

Round 5
These rounds rattle in with the two-minute rounds. Mercado has earned Serrano’s respect. Serrano doesn’t just run in for KO shots, she tries to outsmart Mercado and it works. Great shots at the end of the round there.

Round 6
Serrano boxes well from the outside, but Mercado lands one hell of a body shot. In fact, both women often land on the body. Serrano really finds their reach here and seemed to have hurt Mercado at some point.

Round 7
Serrano looks really hot now. Take over the fight entirely with your jab. That feels like Serrano’s most comfortable lap.

Round 8
Mercado makes this more of a dogfight and digs some real body shots up close. This is a different kind of fight. A much closer lap but Serrano is still taking it.

Round 9
Mercado hangs here. She did a great job in this fight. But Serrano is now running down Mercado and landing huge body shots. She is now teeing off at Mercado. Serrano’s best lap so far.

Round 10
Last round. Both fighters seem intent on keeping everything on screen here. Serrano stabs Mercado hard and she looks injured. Mercando is apparently hanging by a thread here, but she survives. Great end to a great fight.
