Millburn Township Committee will approve first studying of the district finances for particular enhancements

MILLBURN, NJ – At the Millburn Township Committee meeting on Tuesday, the committee will pass a resolution presenting and approving the 2021 budget for the Millburn Special Improvement District (SID) in first reading.

If passed by the community committee, resolution 21-085 would “introduce and approve” the 2021 budget recommended by the SID board of trustees at its February 11th meeting. This would then lead to a second reading, a public hearing and final adoption of the regulation at the April 6th session.

The proposed budget is $ 220,839.43. A significant amount of the proposed funds totaling US $ 114,950 would be used to pay the Executive Director (US $ 79,200) and Marketing Advisor (US $ 35,700) salaries.

In addition, the budget would include marketing and social media, including a new website design and maintenance services. The SID would also incur overhead running costs as well as the expense of new and recurring programs such as the farmers’ market and visual improvements in the city.

The financing and implementation of the SID met with resistance in the city. The counter-efforts against SID are primarily led by local business owners who say it is an undue financial burden on Millburn taxpayers and is primarily centered around the downtown area while the other business districts feel underrepresented.
