Nationwide Lottery Heritage Fund opens functions for £ 1 million Digital Expertise for Heritage Initiative
At its core, the program encourages organizations to remove barriers such as time and location restrictions that previously limited the pool of digital talent they could work with.
As part of the Heritage Fund’s ongoing efforts to help the sector recover from the pandemic, Digital Skills for Heritage is expected to announce the creation of many new online volunteer services at a distance.
The roles should range from social media management to collecting data and tagging images to implementing website design or running online events that are made available to all applicants regardless of location.
“Britain has so much to offer in terms of heritage and it is not always possible to travel to experience it. Likewise, the perfect volunteer may be short on time, ”notes Ros Kerslake, CEO of the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
“Digital volunteering can help open doors for everyone involved and keep more of us connected to the heritage. Organizations will benefit from the time and expertise of people who may not have been able to volunteer in person, and volunteers will be able to share and develop their skills while supporting the legacy they love. It’s a win-win for everyone, and we’re excited to launch this fund thanks to the National Lottery players who raise £ 36 million each week for good causes. “
The delivery of Digital Skills for Heritage has been influenced by responses to the National Lottery Heritage Fund (DASH) 2020 Digital Attitudes and Skills for Heritage (DASH) survey, which shows both willingness and need to develop digital skills across the sector highlighted expanding the scope of volunteer recruitment.
Project request forms must be submitted by August 16, 12:00 noon, and complete applications by September 27. Further information on the initiative’s application process can be found here.
