New group gives well being, medical and health assist to folks of transgender youth

CHARLESTON – TransParent is starting a new chapter in Charleston to meet the needs of local parents raising a transgender or gendered child for greater local connection, support and resources.

Sessions begin on Wednesday June 2nd and take place every first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The sessions start with Zoom but will eventually meet in person.

FACTS FOR FAMILIES: Mindful exercise to reduce stress

“As the mother of a gender-specific child, I quickly realized how few resources are available in our region. I was introduced to TransParent at a PFLAG Charleston meeting and immediately fell in love with their mission, “says Capital Manager Becky Castillo.” I am honored and blessed to be able to start a local group. Our goal is to create a safe place where parents can learn more about their children, find support and access resources. ”

TransParent aims to make the process of creating a local support community quick and easy.

Nurses interested in leading a chapter can apply online. Once approved, starter kits are free. Assistance in finding meeting rooms, marketing tips and moderating meetings is also offered.
