Official acquitted within the deadly capturing of Ashli Babbitt within the Capitol on January sixth
The U.S. Capitol Police officer who fatally shot Ashli Babbitt during the January 6 riot was released Monday following an internal review that concluded the operation may have saved the lives of lawmakers and staff who had barricaded themselves inside.
“The officer’s actions were consistent with the officer’s training and US Capitol Police guidelines,” the agency’s investigation found. The authorities refused to identify the officer.
The report follows a separate decision by the federal prosecutor’s office in April that said no criminal charges would be prosecuted in the case.
For some who supported the siege of the Capitol, Babbitt has been viewed as a martyr for the Conservative cause.
This is breaking news and will be updated.
