Denice Zamboanga and Seo Hee Ham, ONE: Empower Credit: ONE Championship
The ONE Championship competition committee has confirmed the result of Seo Hee Ham against Denice Zamboanga from Friday’s Empower card.
Controversy broke out in the quarter-final fight of the Atomic Weight Grand Prix after Ham (24-8) won a split decision after three rounds back and forth. The first round clearly belonged to Zamboanga (8-1), while the second round tended to Ham. As with all ONE Championship bouts, however, scoring is based on the entirety of the bout, not round by round.
ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced the news on the South China Morning Post on Wednesday.
Per Sityodtong, the committee made up of ONE officials, umpires and judges, voted “9-5 to uphold the decision that Seo Hee Ham won the fight. So the decision is made. “
A tearful Zamboanga had asked for the promotion to check the result after her defeat. Both fighters told the media that they felt they did enough to win the fight.
Denice Zamboanga now meets the Grand Prix alternative Julie Mezabarba. The Brazilian made her Empower debut, defeating veteran Mei Yamaguchi to continue as an alternative.
No date has been announced for this fight or for the semifinals of the Atomic Weight Grand Prix. However, fans can vote for the upcoming match-ups at onefc.com/vote – with Stamp Fairtex, Ritu Phogat, Itsuki Hirata and Seo Hee Ham being the four remaining fighters.
