Seminar on new developments within the design trade

STIR – Design Seminar on Emerging Trends in Design Industry was presented by Dr. Ufaq Inaam and Humera Omer, both of whom are currently assistant professors at the College of Art and Design. Asst. Prof. Dr. Ufaq Inaam, who recently completed her doctorate in design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, is a pioneer in promoting Pakistani design innovations on international platforms. Dr. Inaam positively approaches the mix of science and industry for a conscious sense of design and a sustainable future. Asst. Prof. Humera Omer is currently doing a PhD in design and is passionate about design education and curricula.

The aim of the STIR Design seminar series is to bring science and industry into a mix – where both units learn, share and give each other. Design is a very innovative field and technological advances have made it even faster. STIR is an effort to equip students of the College of Art and Design with the knowledge and dynamics of technology and the realities of the practical design world.

The speakers for this session are young professionals and alumni of the College of Art & Design who are successful in various areas of the design industry.

Our first speaker, Anam Shahid, works as a creative lead at Rolustech, a software house. She studied graphic design at Punjab University’s College of Art & Design and earned an honors. As a highly creative and versatile talented UI / UX designer, Anam Shahid’s strengths include web / mobile application design, website design, print design and advertising design. Her enthusiasm for UI / UX design enables her to take on the challenges with devotion and at the same time to grow and develop in accordance with current trends.

Second speaker, Saad Hameed is Co-Founder / CEO of Game District, one of Pakistan’s largest game studios with over 700 million downloads. Game District has served clients such as NFL, Hobbits, Lego, and Outfit7. Its goal is to create a better work ecosystem where design and technology merge to increase growth and stability on a global scale.

Atif Riaz, a graduate in graphic design from the College of Art & Design, did his first MPhil in Mass Communication and another Masters in Film & TV from BNU, producer at Geo TV. He is also a visiting professor at 5 universities in Lahore. Today he runs his own production house and is also known as a photography, videographer and design trainer.

The STIR seminar appeared to be a success at today’s event and hundreds of students participated on campus and handled the SOPs. Dr. Aqsa Malik, Dr. Sara Omer, Mr. Wahab, Ms. Sumbal Natalia and Mr. Farjood Rizvi. While students and experts from various design institutes such as BNU, Industal and Multan University attended live sessions via Google Meet.
